Interior design drives hidden smart technology
Working in partnership to attain design perfection…
The Cyberhomes in-house interior design team worked closely with the homeowner’s own interior designer, Eileen Johnston, to create this stunning three-bed penthouse apartment.
None of the audio-visual or smart home technology is on show, and naturally all cables are integrated into the building fabric, so nothing could detract from the striking design of each room. Even the four 50” TVs, installed in the kitchen and bedrooms, are mounted on motorised lift mechanisms so they automatically hide out of sight when not in use. Plaster-over speakers create a 5.1 surround sound that is heard but not seen.

Attention to detail
Not only was all the equipment seamlessly integrated into each room’s aesthetics—Cyberhomes ensured every control point was in keeping with the design aesthetic. All the custom-engraved lighting keypads were specified from the Black Nova’s ALBA glass collection, which allowed us to ensure all the data and power outlets had a matching finish.
In conjunction with Eileen (homeowner's own interior designer), Cyberhomes supplied and installed all the light fittings throughout the property. Discreet thimble temperature sensors in every room, controlled and monitored by the Control4 smart home automation solution, ensure the heating and air conditioning systems work in harmony with each other to achieve the desired climate in each space.
When entertaining guests, the owner can enter a PIN code into any of the Control4 touchscreens to display a QR code allowing visitors to access the secure guest Wi-Fi network. Guests can even Airplay their music or videos around the home without any risk of compromising private data.
Multi-coloured starlight
Multi-coloured starlight
The living room has a bespoke star ceiling that was designed and built by the Cyberhomes expert fabrication team. Multiple interlocking sections had to be accurately CNC cut and wrapped in fabric to create the unique 3D effect and disguise a low-level structural beam.
The owner can simply change the ambiance of the stars to suit their mood using a colour wheel on the control screens.. Clever coding of all the lighting keypads means the owner can customise the scenes that are recalled from any of the buttons, without having to refer to Cyberhomes to update the programming.
Behind the curtain
Of course there still had to be an equipment rack, so a mezzanine was created above the utility room. This ensures technology in the living spaces is out-of-sight—all TVs in the property are on motorised mounts that automatically hide the screens away when not in use.
Three mid-height racks were used, although these still proved a challenge to accommodate within the available space. The racks have their own aircon to ensure reliability.
This was a very fast-paced project, being completed in just eight months from the original briefing. Design changes were regularly being issues by the developer, so close co-ordination with all the other trades use on site was essential to ensure everyone was always working to the latest plans.
